We are not currently accepting applications for new CERT members.
Molalla Fire is looking to establish a Molalla Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to help the community in times of need. Become a member of our team and gain hands-on training in first aid, urban search and rescue, fire safety, disaster preparedness, and the incident command system. Participate in regular drills, disaster response, and community events.
History of CERT
The concept of a CERT program was first introduced by the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1985 in response to the constant risk of earthquakes in the region. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) soon recognized such a movement and established a national CERT curriculum. Since that time period, communities in 28 states across the nation have developed and implemented CERT programs.
Why does Molalla need a CERT program?
In cases such as major natural disasters or large-scale medical emergencies, local fire and police agencies can easily become overwhelmed. The geographic location of Molalla comes with its inherited risks. Molalla is at an increased risk for flooding, wildfires, landslides, and severe weather conditions. The Planning Commission estimates that Molalla has a “high” probability that an earthquake will occur within the next 10-35 years. It is our goal to establish a CERT program to be more prepared for such occasions. With your help, we can effectively minimize property damage, medical emergencies, and ultimately the loss of life.
